We are looking for Social workers to join our excellent Safeguarding service in Bolton’s Children’s Services which were judged as ‘GOOD’ in an Ofsted ILACS inspection in 2018 and Ofsted commented

“Children who need help and protection are supported by timely and effective services, delivered by skilled social workers, with decisions that are made by managers.”

The successful candidate will be a qualified social worker with a passion for working with children and their families to improve outcomes for children and to keep them safe from harm with experience of court work. 

The Safeguarding service in Bolton is split into two teams, a child in need and child protection team and a separate court team. Here in Bolton we keep children and young people at the centre of all the work we do, we ensure we offer families the support and intervention they need to give them the opportunity to bring about change, to enable them to safeguard and meet the needs of their children.

You will be a motivated and enthusiastic practitioner with the ability to build professional relationships with children and their families.

You will be an excellent communicator, efficient in time management, report writing and completing assessments as well as a strong team player who values the strength of working in a person-centered manner. All roles require social workers to be able to write reports to a good standard and deliver accurate and concise information verbally and possibly in court.

The court team are looking for social workers who have a passion to develop their skills in this area, complete assessments of families within 26-week court timescales and complete direct work with children and young people to ensure their journey and daily experiences are understood and their voice is heard within the court arena, produce initial and final evidence and work with looked after children and their families and children who will be adopted.

We offer good management support, managers are based in the same building and are available for informal discussions/supervision in addition to formal supervision. Ofsted stated

“The skill and experience of first line managers is recognised and highly valued by social workers and is a key factor in contributing to the experienced and largely permanent workforce.”

Our social workers are passionate about working with children and families and supportive to one another.

All newly qualified social workers (NQSW’s) are entitled to a supported and assessed year in employment (ASYE) that is designed to ensure that they have opportunities to develop as professional social workers and to ensure that they have a fair chance to show their capabilities. NQSW’s will be subject to a 12 month probationary period to support completion of ASYE.   Further information on the ASYE can be found at WWW.skillsforcare.org.uk/asye.

Progression to Grade I for existing Grade H Social Workers in Bolton will be achieved by successful completion of the Post Qualification Specialist Award or the Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Practice (or equivalent).
