An opportunity has arisen for a Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment within the Independent Living Services at Bolton Council.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a passion for working with adults with visual impairment, understanding their needs, aspirations and supporting them to enhance their quality of life and promote independence.
The role of the Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment will be to provide an effective rehabilitation service to individuals with a visual impairment and to complete specialist assessments of need with individuals and their carers, and where appropriate, providing equipment, rehabilitation and producing person centred support plans that promote independence and informed decision making.
This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of innovative ways of working across health and social care in order to improve the experience of service users and carers and to promote well being and independence. Bolton is currently developing its Neighbourhood strategy and this opportunity comes at a key point in which staff consultation and participation is fundamental.
The role involves working in line with current legislation including the Care Act 2014 and Health and Safety legislation, completing specialist assessments with individuals and producing person centred support plans according to identified need.
Some responsibilities covered are:

• To identify, deliver and evaluate professional rehabilitation interventions to visually impaired people to enhance their skills and confidence to maximise their independence.

• To assess and provide support plans to help people at risk from harm or becoming dependent on others due to their sight loss.

• To act as an advocate for visually impaired people and the organisation to help promote accessible services; equality; social integration and understanding of the impact of sight loss.

This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English as per the person specification.
