The recent Ofsted ILACS  inspection in May 2018 rated Bolton GOOD across all 4 sub judgements  – we are seeking to build on this achievement and require an outstanding candidate for this newly created post.

As Head of the Virtual School in Bolton  you will have the opportunity to lead, support and challenge internal and external schools and partners to secure the best possible educational outcomes for children and young people in the care of the local authority.

The successful applicant  will have experience and confidence in both developing and challenging local authority policies and practices in order to promote and support the best possible outcomes for children in care. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated strong and effective leadership in a school, a local authority or other professional senior role, and who has a passion for promoting the educational attainment of children in care and care leavers, and celebrating their successes. The successful post holder will have experience of supporting vulnerable children in educational settings and those out of education, and will be able to demonstrate the impact of their leadership on improved educational outcomes for children.

You will have an excellent understanding of the social care and educational legislation pertinent to children in care and will use your initiative and imagination to unblock significant barriers to the educational success of these children and young people.  

You will be passionate about improving life chances for all young people. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to produce clear evaluative reports. You will also be able to provide high levels of support and challenge and be committed to supporting the wider priorities of Children’s Services within a People’s Directorate.

Joining the teams in Children’s Services supporting schools and Academies across Bolton, you will work closely with the Virtual School Executive and senior leaders in the People’s directorate and broader partnership . We have excellent relationships with various partnerships of schools and academies in Bolton as well as networking groups in the region.  In our changing educational landscape and with the altering role of local authorities you will keep up to date with educational reforms, be adaptable, an excellent ‘people person’ who works imaginatively and collaboratively with the ‘Bolton family’ of Schools and Academies, and the broader partnership.  

Candidates will hold a  degree or relevant professional qualification in Social Work and/or teaching/or relevant profession, along with a formal management qualification or evidence of other systematic management development incorporating leadership, time management and goal setting. Candidates are also required to have a full driving licence.
