Apprentice Grade: Grade 1 £8.45 an hour
Fixed term contract for 2 years, 37 hours per week

Greater Manchester is the largest economy in the UK outside London and the highway network is the life blood of the region. A well-managed highway network is a vital part of a prosperous and forward looking local economy.  Greater Manchester highways comprises of over 6,000 miles of roads.

Our local highways play a significant part in everyday life across Greater Manchester whether you travel by car, bus, tram, bike or on foot.  Our local authority Civil Engineering teams work hard to ensure that our highways run efficiently, reliably and safely.  We are investing in the highway infrastructure of roads, junctions, bridges and street lighting to deliver a network that works for everyone!

As an apprentice you will gain a whole range of skills and knowledge with immediate hands-on experience and a structured development programme leading to an industry recognised qualification.  You may also have an opportunity to work with other highways teams across Greater Manchester, as local authorities work together to share resources and expertise.  Above all, you will receive coaching and support whenever you need it from our experienced, professional and skilled teams!

As an Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician you will be involved in the inspection of bridges, highways and drainage systems and will contribute to the preparation, design and production of proposals and documents for municipal works including traffic management and environmental improvements.

We want to hear from you if you have, or are expected to achieve, 5 GCSE passes (must include Maths, English Language and a Science subject) at grade A-C or equivalent and are enthusiastic about beginning a rewarding career with Bolton Council in Civil Engineering.
